If you have an excellent master class in mind - register and add!
There are never too many bootees, so take a look at other sections:
What are booties
Booties are light shoes for a child up to a year old. Often appear the first shoes of the baby, just starting to walk. Protect the child's legs from injuries, cold, give additional grip to a slippery surface. The sole of such shoes is soft, and the boots themselves do not contain rigid fixation of the ankle. In fact - the role of socks is performed by booties. May be decorated with additional decor.
Booties for the little ones
It is very important to remember that both shoes and clothes for the smallest should be comfortable. not constraining movement, and at the same time warm and comfortable. How to sew cute comfortable booties - the master class will tell. See, do it. everything will work out.
Types of booties
Booties (the name "topics" is also found, from the word "stomp") come in different types and forms. They can be knitted and crocheted, sewn from fabric, felt, fur. Boots come with and without open toe, with straps on and without lifting, tall as socks and low as slippers.
The needlewomen with experience have developed a lot of patterns for knitting various models of children's shoes. Booties in the form of sneakers, ballet pointes, with and without decor, delight the eye with a variety of ideas. Any pattern of booties for the baby with sizes will allow you to sew comfortable and beautiful shoes.
Each seamstress thinks up shoe decoration independently. It can be applications, flowers from beads or beads.
The booties can also be sewn from a combination of fabrics - a leather sole, a felt sole and a soft insole perfectly perform all the necessary protective functions.
Sizes of booties
Most often, booties are sewn individually for each baby. There is no size range for this type of shoe. However, the masters created an indicative scheme, based on which, you can approximately understand the required shoe size.
For sewing, you need a pattern of booties for the baby with sizes. With your own hands, you will need to customize the boots to the right size.
In the picture, each line corresponds to the dimensions:
- red - 0–3 months,
- blue - 3-6 months,
- yellow - 6–9 months
- green - 9-12 months,
- violet - 12-15 months,
- blue - 15-18 months,
- brown - 18-24 months,
- pink - 24–36 months.
Larger booties for children over 1 year old are not sewn. Such shoes are designed for a very young child whose foot is still being formed and does not experience heavy loads. As soon as the child begins to walk more confidently, he needs other shoes.
How is the pattern of booties for the baby with dimensions built? A master class will help you figure this out.
1st method. To build it is necessary to draw an oval, the length of which is equal to the length of the foot of the child. For a newborn, this is about 5 cm. 1 cm is added to the seams and freedom of fitting.
2nd method. A rectangle is also drawn, the long side of which is equal to the circumference of the oval. For convenience, a centimeter tape measures the length of the oval.
The oval, if desired, can be slightly changed, giving it an anatomical shape. To do this, a small protrusion for the thumb is made in the upper part, and for the remaining four, a bevel is made at an angle of about 5 degrees. At the bottom, where the heel is, the corners are beveled stronger to get a sharper angle.
For ease of construction, a 7 x 5 cm rectangle is drawn. Perpendiculars are drawn with the intersection in the center. 1 cm down from the upper border and 1.5 cm to the left (the right booties are drawn). Point A is marked. Upper perpendicular B, bottom C, left D, right D1. It connects with a smooth line A to B, then A to D. The thumb is obtained. The remaining points are outlined evenly and smoothly.
3rd method. The child’s leg is encircled with a pencil. The resulting contour is surrounded by a smooth line with an allowance of 1 cm.
For sewing, a ready-made pattern of booties for the baby with sizes can be used. The description of the manufacture of shoes often contains instructions for work.
There are many ready-made patterns. It is very convenient to use them - they take into account the features of the legs of the newborn, they are easy to fit to the required size. The pattern of baby booties with full-size sizes is very functional and makes sewing easier for the seamstress.
Ready-made patterns are still convenient in that they already contain diagrams of booties details. Accessories and additional items are simply scaled.
The finished pattern can be printed on white paper. The circuit is drawn with a grid of 1 cm cells. If the cells are smaller, it will be more convenient to reduce or enlarge the image.
The printed circuit is reduced based on the actual parameters of the baby’s legs. If the finished circuit is much larger or smaller, then the proportional change is carried out in several approaches.
When the pattern of booties for the baby with sizes is ready, it is necessary to sew the resulting parts with your own hands. Before sewing, it is necessary to cut the fabric.
For children's clothing and shoes, you must choose only natural materials. To prevent the child’s foot from breathing, breathing and not getting irritated by touching unpleasant, scratchy or synthetic material, fabrics of natural origin are used - cotton, linen, knitwear. If the booties are winter and should warm the legs well, then the use of a lining made of natural material is mandatory.
Booties are sewn with the inside and the outside. When cutting for the left and for the right pair, 2 details are drawn, with the top 0.5 cm greater than the bottom.
The selected material is processed according to features - the wool is steamed, cotton fabrics are ironed. The pattern is transferred to the fabric from the wrong side and is cut with sharp scissors.
Parts of booties are cleaved with tailor pins.
For the foot, two parts are also cut out - the lower and the inner. It is possible to add a cushioning layer for softness - felt or fine felted wool. The gasket must lie between the inner layer and the outer.
Parts are chipped with pins.
Cut and chipped parts are sewn together. The peculiarity of working with booties is that most models are built in such a way that the sole and upper together with the inner layer are sewn at the same time. The bootie is ready almost immediately.
Before sewing the top to the sole, the lining and the outer fabric must be combined. The stitched workpiece is ironed.
Then the fabric unfolds so that the pattern is outside and inside the booties, with a stitching inward.
The resulting blank is folded in half and sewn to the sole. The sole is arranged in layers so that the outer part that will contact the floor is inside and the lining is at the top.
The finished stitched blank is trimmed. Zigzag seam processed sole. Can be overcast by hand. The bootie is twisted and decorated as desired - ribbons are sewn for ties, and beads are glued.
It is worth noting that on booties with appliques, the pattern must first be modeled on the fabric and sewn, and only then proceed to assemble the parts together.
If you have built a pattern of booties for your baby with sizes, how to sew it - there should not be any questions in the work.
You will need
- Thick cardboard patterns (see photo below)
- Upper cotton fabric (for the outer part of booties) measuring 53 x 53 cm
- Lining cotton fabric (for the inside of the booties) measuring 53 x 53 cm
- A wool felt 2 mm thick (it is better than white so that it does not shine through the cotton fabric) measuring 45 x 45 cm or volumenfliz N 630 measuring 45 x 45 cm
- Flizofiks measuring 45 x 45 cm - if you choose felt as a pad
Attention: if volumenfliz will serve as a gasket, then you will not need flizofiks.
- 2 buttons or 4 cm Velcro tapes for fastener
- Flizelin N 250 measuring 45 x 45 cm
- Thin rounded stick for forming rounding when twisting (buy at Burda store)
- Sock Stop - latex milk that creates rubber cones on the sole that prevent slipping (or other anti-slip means)
- Scissors for fabric (buy at Burda store)
- Sewing machine
- Sewing thread
- Tailor's chalk (buy at Burda store)
- Dimensions: booties should not be cramped, a certain freedom of movement should be provided for the child’s legs, therefore, after measuring the baby’s legs, add at least 1 cm for freedom of movement and 0.5 cm for seams over all sections.
- Fabrics: dense cotton fabrics are most suitable for baby booties. Never sew booties from stretch fabrics.
- Stitches: When sewing, fasten at the beginning and end of each seam: that is, sew 2-3 stitches in the opposite direction.
If there is a pattern of booties for the baby with sizes, you can also sew booties from fur on this pattern. To work with the skin, it is necessary to make an allowance of 1 cm - for seams and freedom of fitting.
The skin is stitched with a seam outward; it is difficult to sew such a small part manually without experience. To connect, decorative braiding is most often used with a thread of contrasting color or a thin leather cord.
In fur boots, the pattern of booties for the baby with sizes may differ from the workpiece. It is imperative to consider what such shoes will be worn on - on a toe, a warm pantyhose.
Step 1: make paper patterns
Measure the baby's leg: the length and width of the foot, the height of the lift in several places. Reshoot paper patterns, increase to the desired size, add seam allowances (0.5 cm) and allowances for freedom of movement (minimum 1 cm) and cut. Separately cut paper patterns for the upper and lower fabrics, while transferring to the patterns the arrow marks the direction of the pattern on the fabric (Motivrichtung) ...
Similarly, make patterns for volumenfliz.
Or felt - they do not include seam allowances!
The simplest booties
The simplest pattern of booties for the baby, with the dimensions of which it is not necessary to make lengthy calculations, is built very simply.
First, an oval is drawn. The length of the ellipse is equal to the length of the foot of the child, the width is equal to the width of the foot. For a child 3 months. the oval is 7 x 4.5 cm.
In the upper part, a straight line is drawn perpendicular to the length of the ellipse. To the left and right, segments with a length equal to the height of the ellipse are plotted. A rectangle 3 cm high is drawn. A 1.5 cm seam allowance is added on each side along the length.
The blank is cut along the contour and folded like an origami. This is necessary in order to check whether the strip is long enough so that it fits at the bottom of the oval and forms a heel.
If the calculations were correct, 2 workpieces for each leg are cut out. The blanks are sewn with the front sides inward, then turned out, and the heel is sewn. For greater softness, the heel can be sewn with a blind stitch manually.
Step 2: cut the details
Fold cotton fabrics, as well as felt or fleecefix in 4 layers along a straight thread. First, lay the paper patterns of the sole close to the fold, outline the contours and cut 4 soles. When cutting from a fabric with a fold, you get 2 identical soles in the mirror image. Do not forget about the direction of the pattern on the fabric. 4 soles should also be cut out of felt (volumenfliz) so that the lower part of the booties is sufficiently dense and soft.
If you cut out the soles of the fabric in one layer, lay the paper pattern so that you get the soles in the mirror image - for the left and right legs.
If you use 2 layers of felt as a pad, then you also need to cut out 4 soles from flizofiksa: 2 to connect 2 layers of felt to each other and 2 to connect the pad to the sole of cotton fabric.
Step 3: iron the gasket
Iron parts from non-woven 250 to the corresponding parts from the upper and lining fabrics (except for the strap).
Further, if you have a felt gasket, iron on all parts of the cut from the upper cotton fabric parts from the fleece fabric, placing it exactly in the middle of the parts. After that, iron the felt parts from the felt first to the top, then from the inside. If you use volumenfliz instead of felt, you can skip this operation. In this case, you will tighten the volumenlysis directly to the details of the cut from cotton fabrics for the top of the booties.
Step 4: sew paired details of the sole, toe and heel
Overcast the soles of the slices together, the width of the zigzag stitch is 3 mm.
Unscrew the details of the toe and heels on the front side and smoothly iron the seams.
Step 5: stitch the straps
Cut allowances to 2 mm with the exception of the section for turning out. Turn the straps on the front side with a rounded stick. Gently push the stick from inside to inside, slowly moving the fabric in the desired direction.
Step 6: sew the straps to the heel
On the straps, allowances along the eversion hole to wrap inward and iron smoothly. Use a pin to twist the eversion hole.
Now take the paper heel template and strap. Try on the child’s leg and draw a place on the heel paper template where you need to sew one end of the strap and fasten the other end. Lay the paper template in the center of the heel piece and pin it with pins. According to the marks, pin the straps.
Attention: the strap for the left shoe is sewn to the right side of the heel to the upper fabric. The strap for the right shoe is sewn to the left side of the heel to the upper fabric.
Stitch the straps to the edge at a distance of 2-3 mm from the ironed bend. Sew along the front (outer) side. Start the seam in the middle of the strap towards the free end, then make a rounded seam by turning the sewing machine wheel with your hand, then fasten the hole for turning out and finally sew the second rounded end to the heel, as described above.
Step 7: mark the midline on the details
Instead of tailor's chalk, you can use pins, jab them at the beginning and at the end of the line. These marks are very important: if they are not combined, then the booties will turn out to be “crooked”.
Step 8: Sew the toes to the soles
Pry one toe with the front side on the front side of the top of the sole so that the middle marks are precisely aligned. Pin both parts at the end of the midline.
Start the stitching from the bottom side (from the sole side), from the highest point of curvature, the seam width is 0.5 cm. Then you will need to make a second seam from the same top curvature point, but on the other side, with the same seam width.
During grinding you constantly combine sections of two parts, that is, sections of the toe constantly move to sections of the sole. The easiest way is to make a few stitches, then stop, leaving the needle in the fabric, raise the foot, turn the sole of the booties to the desired position, lower the foot and make a few more stitches.
Step 9: Sew the heel to the sole
Attach the heel to the sole front to the front side and align the midline.
Chip off the ends of the midlines on the heel and sole.
For the right shoe, the strap should be on the right, for the left - on the left. Please note that only after turning the shoes off they will look “right”, and not in a mirror image, as in the process of sewing. At the time of sewing, they should look like in the photo.
After you chopped a pin exactly in the middle of the heel and the sole, you grind them in the same way in two steps as a toe with the sole, see step 10. First from the middle of the sole to the right, then from the middle of the sole to the left - seam width 0.5 cm .
On the left rounding, you can scribble or again on the sole ...
... or turn the shoe over and scribble on top. Check how it works best for you.
Step 10: process the edges of the sole
Seam allowances along the edges of the sole should be cut to 3-4 mm. Overcast with a narrow zigzag stitch 2 mm wide or overlock.
For overcasting, take threads of a suitable color to the color of the lining. For our sample, threads of contrasting color are selected for illustration purposes only. Next, carefully twist the booties on the front side, especially carefully twisting and smoothing the curves.
Step 11: Sew Buttons or Velcro
The booties are almost ready, it remains only to punch the buttons or sew on the Velcro tape so that they can be fastened. Tip: it is better to choose the buttons to match the color of the upper booties fabric.
Do not forget to try on the booties before punching the buttons and specify the punching points of the upper and lower halves of the buttons.
A convenient alternative to buttons can be a velcro tape (not glued, but sewn on!). Such a fastener will allow depending on which socks (thick or thin) the booties are put on, to fasten them more or less freely.
Sew with hidden stitches without piercing the needle to the other side.
Step 12: apply anti-skid to the soles
To prevent the baby from slipping when walking, apply a special latex milk - anti-slip agent to the soles of the booties: Sock Stop, Sockenstopp, Sockenbremse, etc. You can choose a beautiful pattern for application by choosing the milk in tone or in a contrasting color, or simply draw dots on the outer contour soles.
